Palm Springs artist Rosenberg is among the newest batch of painters commissioned to produce works for a unique Sonoma Valley winery program that has recognized “some of the world’s most notable contemporary artists.”

His abstract work, Effervescence, was used as the label for the newly-released 2017 Aleatico Rosé́ of Imagery Estate Winery (sister winery to Benziger) in Glenn Ellen, Ca. The label is part of the winery’s Imagery Artistry Series. Since its inception, the program has grown to nearly 500 works by 300 artists representing a “cross-section of artists nationally and internationally.” Other participants have included Sol LeWitt, Nathan Oliviera, and Squeak Carnwath. Sixty of the works are on view in the winery and the remainder are in a collection held by Sonoma State University.

“It was a fun but challenging commission and on top of it I got five cases of wine,” said Rosenberg who uses his birth name, Tom Ross, in business and personal settings. He was invited to participate in the program last year after his work was spotted at Art Palm Springs in the city’s convention center. He was given free rein except that he was required to somehow incorporate an image of the Parthenon, which is the winery’s signature. To celebrate the program and the new wine, he will offer a tasting Wednesday during the monthly art walk of Backstreet Arts District from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Tom Ross Gallery.
